This human tendency to fly ultimately led to the invention of the hot air balloon. Two Frenchmen, the Montgolfier Brothers; who lived in Paris during the 1700’s, first invented the hot air balloon. After the Montgolfier Brothers, the significant development to hot air balloon was done by Ed Yosk. In 1960, Ed Yost revived the Montgolfiers’ old design, updating it with plastic lining and a kerosene burner. He developed the high-altitude weather balloons. Yosk made performed some record-breaking feats including a successful crossing of the English Channel. Now the hot air balloon use propane burners and rip-stop nylon.
